Cottage pie is one of my favourite main dishes. I really like the original cottage pie, but now I have to avoid eating potatoes, which is why I have made 2 healthy variations of it. It may also be easily frozen and reheated when you need it.
National cuisine main dishes are usually filling, hearty and very tasty.
Cabbage is the main ingredient in almost all of Russia’s national main dishes.
“Golubzi” is mincemeat inside a cabbage leave; a great, healthy, good value for money dish. It may also be frozen and reheated easily. It can be served with tomato sauce or crème fraiche.
Russian style cabbage with pork escalopes is one of my husband’s favourite dishes of all time. It is an excitingy versatile dish. You also can make with cabbage with fish, mince, chicken, mushrooms, and eggs or with any leftover meat in the house. It is also possible to use it as a filling for pies and hot healthy sandwiches.

“Zrazi” it is usually stuffed mince cutlets with vegetables, mushrooms and cheese inside.
We really like my sister-in-law’s Moussaka with Briam (Greek Roast Vegetables); I was surprised to find out that she has never used flour or potatoes in it at all!!! She used these recipes even before we started to be concerned about wheat, grain, starch etc
Cholodez is a
famous Russian cold meat dish. This is a very filling and tasty recipe and
extremely beneficial for our bones and joints. It is made from cheap cuts of
meat and very easy to cook.

Vegetarian main dishes I used to cook and eat during the fasting period when I lived in Russia. Nowadays, I am on a diet where I have to eat every 3 hours and have healthy fat, fish or meat, and non-starchy vegetables to keep my blood sugar level low.
These recipes were inspired by my mum who is still fasting regularly, and some other very nice people I know who are vegetarians. Fasting is much more restrictive than vegetarianism; it does not allow eggs at any time, and on some days, and not even oil or butter. Therefore, many recipes will be good for vegetarians and I will give tips how to adapt them for people who are fasting.

Stuffed vegetables are a great option for healthy main dishes and really good value for money and time. They may also be frozen and reheated easily. I mainly use mince to stuff the vegetables, but sometimes I make them vegetarian and serve as a side dish or a starter.
